Fees, payment and cancellations, location

The fee for a 50-minute counselling session is $150. This compares to the approved rate of the Australian Psychological Society which is currently (January, 2012) $218.

For an example of how psychological treatment compares to other services, see what Dr Jason Luoma has written.

Is counselling worth the expense?

When you start to see a counsellor or psychologist for treatment that may end up costing hundreds or thousands of dollars, it is a fair question to ask “How can I be sure I’ll get my money’s worth?” I use a reliable outcome measurement system so that we can keep track of your progress. This will be discussed in the first session.

Payment methods

I ask that you pay for each session at the time of the appointment. I accept cash and cheque as payment, and also offer EFTPOS (credit or debit card) facilities. If you would like a receipt for your session, please let me know and I will either bring it to your next session or mail it to you.

Cancelling an appointment

If you need to cancel a session please phone or text me on my mobile number (0425 603 702) by 11.00am the day before your appointment. Cancellations after this time incur a charge of 50% of the full session fee. I understand that genuine emergencies do happen, so I am willing when I define the situation as an unavoidable emergency, to waive the cancellation charge, but this is always at my discretion.

Why do you charge for cancelled appointments?

Dr Howard Erman explains why psychotherapists typically charge a cancellation fee.

Times and location

Currently I see clients on weekdays and Tuesday-Thursday evenings at 203 High St Northcote. Here is a map of the location.
